Are contingency fees legal in Belgium?

Not as a pure share of the result. Article 446ter of the Belgian Judicial Code prohibits agreements where the lawyer's fee depends exclusively on the outcome of the case (pactum de quota litis). A success-related supplement on top of a base fee is allowed, so ask for the full fee arrangement in writing.
