Who pays if I lose a case in Italy?

The loser is normally ordered to pay the winner's legal costs under article 91 of the Code of Civil Procedure, in an amount the judge sets using official fee parameters, which may be below what the winner actually paid. The judge can split the costs in some situations, for example when both sides partly win.
