Are contingency fees legal in the United States?
Yes. Contingency fees are legal in every US state for most civil claims, usually as a percentage of the recovery set out in a signed written agreement. The ABA Model Rules, adopted in some form by the states, bar them in criminal cases and most family matters, and several states cap the percentage for certain claims.
